We recommend these books, TV shows and movies because we've found them to be enlightening, and, in the case of most of the books and documentaries, because they use reason and evidence to support their claims, not faith and primitive superstition. However, many of the movies and TV series were made primarily for entertainment value, and don't promote or argue for a specific view per se, eg atheism or critical thinking. Because of this, the push to entertain often trumps reality when facts become inconvenient. But they are movies and shows that atheists and skeptics might find enjoyable in that the protagonists generally, by their actions, lend support to the belief in a naturalistic universe, either by ridiculing and/or quickly dismissing claims involving gods, ghosts and superstition, or simply by ignoring them altogether.

This is a not a list of what is available, but merely some of what we have read or viewed and found to be helpful in differentiating between fact and fiction.

Unfortunately if you're looking for books that critically and skeptically examine dubious claims, what we call silly beliefs, then most if not all on offer in your local bookstore will be rubbish. Deluded people looking for books on religion, astrology, numerology, alternative healing, alien abductions, psychic mediums and alternative histories are spoilt for choice. But they are written by believers, for believers, and they no more describe reality than does 'The Cat in the Hat' by Dr. Seuss.

Regarding atheism and skepticism specifically, some excellent books have been published, but apart from a rare best-seller like "The God Delusion", most are difficult to find. Try your local library or second hand bookstores. If you wish to purchase any of these books, we suggest you search for the title on Amazon.com. They will have the latest edition as well as reviews of the book, and you'll normally find it's cheaper and a quicker delivery than your local bookstore offers.
